Spring Day
It was a beautiful Spring day in March. Olivia was enjoying being outside, in her backyard, relaxing with a book on the moist lawn when she heard it, ‘meow’.
Olivia perked up. ‘meow, meow’
Where was that coming from?
“MEOOOW!”
She looked up in the tree. where she saw the kitten. It was so high up. The kitten was a cute, gray calico with orange spots. ‘MEEEOOOOWWW!’ The kitten was so scared!
Olivia knew what she had to do. She started climbing that tree, up, Up, UP. The kitten continued to cry. Olivia called to it, “Don’t worry, Kitty, I’m coming to save you!” The cat stopped meowing and watched Olivia climb towards it. It took a step back. Olivia cooed, “It’s OK. I won’t hurt you.”
The kitten stopped moving. Olivia noticed the kittens eyes get bigger, and she stopped to see what the kitten was looking at. Then a squirrel ran right up to Olivia, up her front and down her back! It screeched at her! It ran circles around her. She grabbed the trunk of the tree, held tight and closed her eyes. The bark made marks on her arms from her hugginh it so hard.
It took Olivia a moment to notice how very quiet and still it was in the tree. She carefully opened her eyes to see the squirrel was gone, and so was the kitten! ‘Meow’ came from the ground below. Olivia watched the kitten rub against the tree, then sit and look up at her, waiting expectantly. Olivia looked down at that kitten and laughed. “That figures, you little scamp!”
She carefully climbed back down the tree and cuddled with the sweet calico.
